The following is my basic pricing outline to give you a general idea of what you can expect when hiring my services. All of my prices are displayed in USD.

Please keep in mind that these are just “ballpark” figures to give you an idea of where my prices start. Some models, especially vehicles and monsters, are very difficult to categorize accurately. Due to these difficulties, you can see a wide range in some of the pricing categories. For a more accurate price quote please contact me directly at chieflivegaming@gmail.com

28mm RPG Characters / Singles

This category is what I refer to for models from Heroforge, Reaper Singles, D&D miniatures, Kingdom Death, and all other small ~28/30mm single models. This category is appropriate for small centerpieces such as Warlords or named characters, or just a small model you want painted with extra detail.

  • Level 1 : $60

    •  Our starting point. This is what I would consider a nice tabletop standard for a character model. Since it’s a single model I am able to spend a solid amount of time painting clean edge highlights and applying basic extras like subtle OSL (Object Source Lighting). Painting the existing models base is included.

  • Level 2 : $90

    • Extra attention is given to the highlighting and detail work. Advanced effects like NMM (Non metallic metal) are done if desired. Basic customization to the models base can also be done.

  • Level 3 : $90+ Hourly rate estimate, contact for a quote

    • This level is generally for people that want me to paint a character the best that I can, but remain in a certain budget.

  • Display Basing: $40+, can be added to any level

    • This is for players who want a particularly detailed base for their model. This can include magnetizing the model to swap from a display base to a play base, plinth style displays, or diorama style displays. Price is based on exact request.

28mm Wargaming Infantry Squads

These prices reflect my work on squads of infantry models in the 28mm/30mm size. These prices can vary quite a bit since this category covers such a large variety of models. Generally speaking, the low end of the price range reflects smaller or less detailed infantry, whereas the higher end of the range reflects larger or more detailed infantry.

  • Batch Painting / Value Painting: $4-5 / model

    • The “let’s get these models painted and on the table as cheap as possible” option. 3 color minimum with basing.

  • Level 1 – Regular Standard: $6-12 / model

    • 4+ colors depending on the model. Highlighting is done with a basic wash+drybrush style to keep costs low.
    • This is by far my most chosen painting level for infantry. This level will see your infantry painted up to a solid standard where they look good on the table and hold up to scrutiny when picked up and examined. I often recommend clients go with this level for the bulk of their rank and file infantry, and apply any additional funds in their budget to their larger models or centerpieces.

  • Level 2 – High Standard: $13-20 / model

    • I apply much more attention to detail work at this level and paint highlights by drybrushing/glazing in multiple more subtle layers. Edge highlights can also be substituted in if desired. Effects such as OSL, barrel heat bluing, drilled barrels, stencil work, basic freehand, etc are also added.
    • This level is appropriate for one or two important squads in an army. I also recommend this choice if a client is commissioning a low model count army but wants each model to really stand out. Common examples include Primaris marines, Custodes, or Terminators.

  • Level 3 – Display Level: $20+ / model Hourly rate estimate, contact for a quote

    • The big tuna. When you have a centerpiece squad that you want painted to really turn heads, this is the option to go for. This is also where major freehand and advanced custom sculpting or conversion work comes in.

28mm “Generic” Characters

This category is for when when you want a model given a little extra attention, but don’t want to jump into my RPG singles category. A good example would be a Space Marine Sergeant that you want to stand out from the rest of his squad. Perhaps this marine isn’t wearing his helmet and needs skin tones painted, or you want some extra pop for his plasma weapon. This is the basic pricing I use for all characters in the 28-30mm scale.

  • Generic Character Model: $15-40

    • Eldar Warlocks, Space Marine Sergeants, Smash Captains, Cadre Fireblades, smaller named characters, etc. Models you want to stand out from the crowd or the rest of their squad but don’t want to break the bank on.

Small Vehicles / Monsters

Models like small troop transports and smaller monsters fall under this category. Examples include Rhinos, Land Speeders, Dreadnaughts, Venoms, etc.

  • Level 1 – Regular Standard: $30-60

    • Basic airbrush panel highlights with a small amount of detail work. The “tabletop standard option”.

  • Level 2 – High Standard: $60-90

    • More detailed airbrush work and edge highlights added if desired. Magnetized weapon options, weathering, and battle damage are also added if desired.

  • Level 3 – Display Level: $90+ Hourly rate estimate, contact for a quote based on model request

    • If you really want your model to stand out from the rest, this is your best bet!

Large Vehicles / Monsters

Bigger vehicles and large monsters fall under this category. Examples include Land Raiders, Riptides, Daemon Princes, Ravagers, etc.

  • Level 1 – Regular Standard: $60 – 110

    • Basic airbrush highlights with a small amount of detail work. The “tabletop standard option”. Basic magnetizing is included if relevant to the model.

  • Level 2 – High Standard: $110 – 150

    • More detailed airbrush work and edge highlights added if desired. Magnetized weapon options, weathering, and battle damage are also added if desired.

  • Level 3 – Display Level: $150+ Hourly rate estimate, contact for a quote based on model request

    • If you really want your model to stand out from the rest, this is your best bet!

Imperial Knights

For Imperial Knights, Wraithknights, and smaller 40k superheavies I follow this guideline.

  • Level 1/2 – Regular Standard: $150-225

    • This categories low end price reflects basic airbrush panel highlights for the bulk of the model with basic attention to the detail work. The “tabletop standard option”. Basic magnetizing options such as magnets at the waist and arms of an imperial knight are always applied if desired.
    • Adding more detailed airbrush/brush work or adding more special effects brings us up in the price range.
    • Common special effect additions I see requested include, chevrons/hazard stripes, OSL, full weapon swap magnetizing, advanced weathering or battle damage, special base work (knight stepping on and crushing a rhino, etc), freehand, or advanced model posing.

  • Level 3 – Display Level: $225+ Hourly rate estimate, contact for a quote based on model request

    • If you really want your model to stand out from the rest, this is your best bet! This tier may include a large amount of custom conversion work as well as more detailed painting.
