As my commission process has evolved I no longer adhere to a tiered pricing outline. I find that strict pricing tiers and categories can often hinder the creative process between myself and my clients.

With this in mind, one of my most common questions is some form of:

I’ve found the best way to get an accurate “ballpark range” for the cost of any project starts with looking at a few key details. I have outlined the most common details I end up needing below. Any prospective clients are welcome to email me any time at chieflivegaming@gmail.com

Details to consider

  • Basics of desired color scheme
    • This can be as simple as “I like blue” or broad like “dude, neon cyberwave demon marines”
  • Any reference pictures of your inspiration
    • A lot of times this will mix together aspects from lots of different sources
  • If you’re considering an army commission, who will assemble the army?
    • Assembling an entire army for gaming systems like Warhammer 40k takes a huge effort. One of the most common ways to cut both the cost and turnaround time of an army project is for the models to arrive in my studio ready to be painted. Many of my clients are hobbyists themselves and can assemble the army either fully or partially before it arrives to my studio.
    • If needed, I can provide tips for safely shipping any models to help them arrive undamaged!
  • Are there any time constraints for your project?
    • I am pretty quick to turn around projects once I start, but I can often book out months in advance. If you are considering a commission with a hard deadline like a tournament or convention, make sure to let me know!

The above information is plenty to get us started in most cases. Discussing a potential commission shouldn’t pressure you into booking a slot. Feel free to reach out, even if it’s just to get an idea of what to expect!
